Threadlift is a minimally invasive treatment that inserts a special barbed surgical thread into the skin to tighten and lift different areas on the face. Attached to these ‘threads’ are small barbs that causes inflammation, which will help stimulate the production of collagen in those areas. Collagen is the protein that is naturally found in our bodies that gives our skin strength and elasticity.
The threadlift is often considered the non-surgical option for the traditional facelift.
While the threadlift will not replicate the effects of facial fillers, the two are often used in conjunction to give you a more youthful and fuller face.
Dr Elias Tam of EHA Clinic has over 10 years of experience with threadlift, and over 20 years of medical experience. He will be best equipped to answer any queries you may have about the procedure.
Here are three reasons why you should consider getting a threadlift.
A threadlift takes little time out of your schedule
A threadlift can be performed in about an hour, a much shorter time compared to the traditional facelift. A threadlift can therefore be performed during a lunch break, or over the weekend, which makes it very popular for busy individuals. However, depending on where you have the threads inserted (e.g. full face or nose) there will be some swelling and tenderness. Patients are advised to avoid using makeup on the area to prevent infection.
Although there is some downtime, a threadlift still has far less downtime than an actual surgical face lift, which can leave a patient out of commission for several weeks or more, depending on the extent of the surgery.
Dr Tam may prescribe specific diet restrictions to ensure no complications occur after the treatment.
A threadlift is long-lasting
The effects of a threadlift lasts approximately 1 to 2 years. After which, the sutures will be reabsorbed into the face, slowly returning the face to its previous state; you will not need another procedure to remove these threads from your face. This makes the procedure advantageous, as the threads would not complicate any other cosmetic or reparative surgeries you may have later in life.
The results of a threadlift are subtle and immediate, and will continue to improve up to two months after the procedure.
For the best results, a repeat treatment after 6 to 12 months is recommended.
A threadlift is a non-surgical procedure
Unlike facelifts, threadlifts are minally invasive in nature. This means that only small punctures are made on the face, and no general anaesthesia is required during the procedure. Instead, Dr Tam will use a numbing cream, so you will not experience the ‘post-anaesthesia hangover’ that comes with the use of general anaesthesia. Threadlifts also do not bear the same risks that are associated with surgery.
As you are fully conscious during the procedure, Dr Tam is able to use a mirror to show you the effects of the threadlift as he is performing it. You can then give feedback, allowing him to make further changes.
