What is EMSculpt?

EMSculpt is a procedure that uses high intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM) for the improvement, strengthening, and toning of muscles in the abdomen, arms, legs, and buttocks.

The procedure is known to help individuals build muscle and burn fat simultaneously.

Here at EHA Clinic, we utilise EMSculpt by BTL Aesthetics to provide this treatment.

What can EMSculpt treat?

  • Stubborn fats around the abdomen
  • Toning of muscles

It is suitable for application on the face, neck, body and legs.

How does EMSculpt work?

EMSculpt (How It Works)

HIFEM device uses a very different energy source to reduce fat. Its called High Intensity Electromagnetic Focussed Fields – which not only reduces the fat layer, but also builds the muscle underneath. The electromagnetic pulses stimulate muscle contractions in the abs – as many as 20,000 in a typical 30-minute treatment.

Such intense muscle contractions requires fuel, so as the muscles are contracting they break down fat to supply the energy.

Your EMSculpt experience at EHA Clinic

The desired area of treatment is first assessed by the doctor. Next, the HIFEM applicator is applied over the treatment area. As the treatment begins, it feels like an intensive workout, but you can lay down and relax. Feelings of ache and sore may be experienced after the treatment.

Treatment duration is typically from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the type of applicator and number of treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Dr Elias Tam
1. What is EMSCULPT (or similar high-intensity electromagnetic muscle stimulation)?
EMSCULPT is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that uses high-intensity electromagnetic waves to stimulate supramaximal muscle contractions. It is designed to help improve muscle tone and may assist with body contouring.

Good candidates are those who:

  • Are in generally good health

  • Have a stable weight (not planning major weight loss or gain)

  • Have realistic expectations about outcomes

  • Are seeking toning rather than dramatic fat loss
During consultation, we will assess your medical history, body condition, and suitability.

The number of sessions depends on treatment area, your starting condition, and desired results. A typical course might consist of several sessions (for example, 4 sessions over a few weeks), but your personalised plan will be provided during consultation.

Each session usually takes about 30 minutes per targeted area (or as clinically appropriate). You may feel intense muscle contractions during treatment, but procedures are non-invasive and require no incisions. After the session, you can generally resume daily activities immediately.

Some people notice improved muscle tone within a few weeks. Optimal results may occur several weeks to a few months after completing the treatment course, as muscle remodeling and adaptation progress.

Yes — though non-invasive, potential effects may include:

  • Temporary muscle soreness

  • Mild redness or localized discomfort

  • Possible muscle fatigue or stiffness

  • Rarely, minor temporary bruising

Your physician will discuss contraindications (e.g. metal implants, pacemakers, certain medical conditions) and ensure your safety before treatment.

No. While EMSCULPT aims to stimulate muscles and may contribute to improved body contour, results vary widely. It is not a guaranteed method for fat removal or dramatic weight loss.

No. EMSCULPT is intended to complement, not replace, regular physical exercise and a healthy diet. It works best when combined with a holistic lifestyle approach.

The cost depends on the treatment area, number of sessions, and complexity. We will provide an itemised quote tailored to your plan during consultation.

Possibly. To sustain results, periodic maintenance treatments or complementary modalities may be recommended, depending on your lifestyle, muscle use, and body changes over time.

  • Disclose your full medical history and implants/metal devices

  • Avoid intense exercise immediately before a session

  • Follow any pre-treatment instructions given (e.g. hydration)

  • Discuss any medications or conditions with your clinician

  • Medical history review and contraindications screening

  • Physical examination of the target areas

  • Explanation of how the treatment works, expectations, risks

  • Quotation and schedule plan

  • Consent discussion and answering your questions

Generally, these treatments are viewed as aesthetic / elective (non-medically necessary) procedures, and are usually not covered by MediSave or standard medical insurance. You should check with your insurer if your policy covers body-contouring or aesthetic procedures.

No. Muscle tone and contour can change with age, weight fluctuations, and lifestyle. Long-term results depend on ongoing care, physical activity, diet, and possibly maintenance treatments.

You can contact us via phone, email, or the booking form provided on the website. Our staff will guide you through the pre-consultation requirements and scheduling.
