What is A thread lift?

First introduced in early 1990, thread lifting is a minimally invasive procedure aim edto achieve the effects of a face lift and to reverse the effects of ageing. A PDO thread lift involves the insertion of small barbed sutures underneath the skin of the face, which are then tightened to lift sagging and lax skin. PDO stands for polydioxanone which is a dissolvable material.

Thread lift is also known as a safe alternative to a surgical facelift. Thread lifts cost less and have less downtime, which is why they are a popular “lunchtime” or “weekend lifting” treatment in Singapore. Thread lifts are minimally invasive and can last for approximately 1 to 2 years and can be used to lift the face, nose and brow as well as to rejuvenate the skin.

WHAT CAN THREAD LIFTS TREAT?

Thread Lifts are known to treat:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Round face/Square face
  • Sagging Skin
  • Features enhancement
  • Crow’s feet
  • Double Chin

How DOES A THREAD LIFT work?

Over the years, there have been many developments. Barbs were first added to improve tissue traction and lifting in an Aptos thread. To remove the problems of having a permanent thread, Happy Lift was created with threads that can be reabsorbed by the body. To improve traction, the barbs were replaced with cones, as seen in Silhouette Thread and Silhouette Soft.

Various materials including Gold and elastic thread were created over the years.

Besides lifting, the threads stimulate collagen production. This stimulation has resulted in a technique popularised by the Korean market where short threads are used to shape a face.

The nose thread lift procedure is a very popular procedure in Korea and Japan. The nose threads act as scaffolding, which helps to contour, define, sharpen, lift and shape the nose as desired. The threads used for the nose thread lift procedure are called PDO (polydixanone) threads. The body naturally absorbs the PDO threads over time and as they dissolve, they create new collagen and tissue fibroblasts in the skin, resulting in skin tightening, which enhances the definition and contour of the nose.

For the nose thread lift treatment, we now offer PDO, PLLA and PCL threads, which can last longer – around 18 and 24 months respectively. PLLA is also stiffer and will expand slightly with time, which gives a stronger and thicker definition.

WHY CHOOSE EHA CLINIC FOR THREAD LIFT?

Dr. Elias Tam first started offering thread lifts more than ten years ago in Singapore, learning under Dr Pierre Fornier, the father of thread lift and syringe liposuction. At that time, the procedure was done using the standard non-absorbable thread. Being experienced in this area, Dr. Elias Tam will be able to assess the best procedure for your needs.

The treatment area is cleansed, Numbing cream is applied.

Local anaesthetic is injected in the areas to be treated. Threads are inserted using a fine needle under aseptic technique without any incisions.

Threads are held in place by the reabsorbable bidirectional cones. Pressure is applied to compress and reshape the tissues to obtain the desired lifting effect.

Treatment time is typically 30 – 60 minutes.

Mild swelling, redness and soreness and brusing may be expected at the end of the treatment.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR THREAD LIFT?

Just like any other treatment, some procedures may not be suitable for certain patients.

Patients who face these issues are suitable for thread lift:

  • Slightly undefined mandibular region
  • Sagging of the cheeks
  • Deep nasolabial lines
  • Double Chin
  • Lax Neck Skin

Patients who are not suitable for threadlifts:

  • Excessive skin laxity
  • Advanced facial lipoatrophy
  • Those who expect immediate results
  • Those who require results similar to surgical facelift

It is thus important to get treatments and consultation from an experienced and licensed doctor.

What can i expect AFTER THREAD LIFT?

The readjustment of soft tissues results in an instant lifting effect of the skin.

Collagen is also stimulated in the deep layers of the skin as the threads reabsorb in the subsequent months, replacing the depleted volume in saggy areas.

This brings about a smoothening effect of the skin and an improvement to the contours of the face.

Depending on the severity of the signs of ageing, individual results may vary.
